Housing Stabilization Program

The Housing Stabilization Program (HSP) provides emergency assistance to families who have fallen behind on their rent or mortgage due to a temporary crisis. For many families, the threat of homelessness is just one crisis away from becoming a reality. The Housing Stabilization Program offers financial assistance, comprehensive case management, access to mental health services, and wraparound support services to ensure families remain stably housed while they weather the storm.

Preventing homelessness for 150 families a year, HSP is Palm Beach County’s largest non-governmental homeless prevention program.

HSP was Adopt-A-Family’s primary response during the COVID-19 crisis, when every family in Palm Beach County was forced to navigate the unprecedented challenges brought on by the pandemic. HSP expanded and adapted to better serve families devastated by the economic impact of the pandemic.

HSP prevented homelessness for 140 families during the 2022 fiscal year. Each family received emergency financial assistance to prevent homelessness, case management, budget counseling, and links to support services. The program successfully linked 97% of the families served to at least one support service designed to aid them on the path to stability, including job training programs, financial literacy courses, mental health services, and childcare vouchers. 93% of the families served during the 2021 fiscal year (180/194) maintained stable housing for one full year following agency intervention.

Housing Stabilization Program eligibility guidelines are as follows. To qualify, families must:

  • Live in Palm Beach County
  • Have minor children who reside with them
  • Be able to document the unexpected financial crisis
  • Have a 3-day notice or other proof of imminent eviction
  • Have enough income to self-sustain once the crisis is rectified.
