Over 100 local businesses, affinity groups, and local philanthropic families participated in this year’s Holiday Adopter Program – ensuring each family we served this season had a very special holiday.
In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, we caught up with Maria Evangelista, an Adopt-A-Family staff member who coordinated this year’s Holiday Adopter Program. This year, more than 100 local businesses, affinity groups, and local philanthropic families participated in the program – ensuring each family they were matched with had a very special holiday. In many cases, our Holiday Adopters “adopted” more than 1 family! In all, 147 families were matched with Holiday Adopters including 331 children!
Maria, in your words, what made this year’s efforts so special?
“Truthfully, there were too many touching moments for me to even share. I met so many amazing people from the community. I got to work with individuals, companies, and school that have a long standing relationship with Adopt-A-Family as well as brand-new supporters that came out to give back to families in need this holiday. It was beautiful. One thing that stood out was the authenticity and humility of our donors. They kept thanking ME for the work we do at Adopt-A-Family. I thought to myself, we can’t be doing our job without YOU, the community of supporters. It was truly touching.”
